MSNBC host Jen Psaki blamed former President Donald Trump for the recent infighting among GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
As Trump faces four criminal indictments, Psaki claims his attacks on the legal system and “violent rhetoric” is not only being excused by Republicans but replicated by the GOP caucus.
Psaki pointed towards allegations that Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy elbowed Rep. Tim Burchett (D-TN) in the kidneys earlier this week and the fistfight that nearly broke out in a Senate hearing between Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and the president of the Teamsters Union.
Psaki noted in her opening monologue on Sunday that Republicans have tolerated his “dark vision for America” that involves “sweeping raids, sprawling detention camps and mass deportation for immigrants with a reinstated Muslim ban and a push to unleash troops on protesters.”
Moreover, the former White House press secretary pointed towards the heated exchange between Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) and chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee James Comer (R-KY) as an another example of GOP hysteria.
In fact, Republicans tempers flared so dramatically and so publicly that Speaker Mike Johnson told them to take Thanksgiving to cool off. But let’s face it, we all kind of know they won’t, because the fact is, the fish rots from the head. It always does. And Donald Trump remains the de facto head of the GOP. Now, none of this behavior should come as a surprise, given Trump’s role in unleashing a violent mob on the Capitol on January 6th. The problem is rank and file Republicans in Congress seemingly refuse to learn from that history, even when it once put their lives in jeopardy.
